Modern Web Design

Responding to the Current Trends in User Experience

Web design is an art in itself, but among all the professional services of its kind, it is indeed the most quickly evolving. This is attributed to the speed by which technology and the internet respond to the growing demand for user convenience and relevant innovations.

Because of this, web designers and developers are constantly learning new techniques for keeping up with ever-changing requirements.

Oblivious to many, web designers and engineers are working round the clock to create the best possible design that responds to the challenges brought about by the rapid changes in computer and internet technology. Almost every year, new mobile devices and computer models are being launched in the market. With them comes new operating software and features previously unknown by the public.

To ensure maximum user experience, web designs need to cope with these clever introductions, especially with the proliferation of tablets and internet-enhanced mobile phones. The focus for every web designer is to create designs that will fully function on every device.

A good web design also has to contend with Search Engine and Cross-platform optimization, along with changes in algorithms being used to determine site rankings and visibility to users. These are key features that every site needs to address, regardless of their purpose, as they all aim to attract visitors and engage users. Whether they are blog sites or business sites, all depend on the pulling force of their web design for readers or leads.

The Drupal Revolution

Only recently, developers have announced the coming revolution involving Drupal 8, which promises better interaction, user interface, and user experience. It is expected to be released sometime between August and December of 2013. Though limited details have been released about its features, one can expect adaptability to current trends and responsive usability as its key advantages.

As a preview, this is what its developers have to say: "We are hard at work on the next version of Drupal. Some of the great things planned include better HTML5 and mobile support, improved multilingual features, and setting up Drupal 8 on a modern web development framework."

A Modern WordPress

Bloggers and small businesses are also eagerly awaiting the release of WordPress 3.7, which is expected to launch in mid 2013. WordPress has been named the most popular blogging software and content management tool, powering over 60 million websites worldwide.

WordPress's strategy is to launch frequent version updates based on actual user reviews, assessments, and suggestions. Little is known about the details of the update, but one thing is for sure, its aim is to achieve maximum usability, user experience, convenience, and user-friendliness.

Geographical Targeting

Website architecture is never an easy task. It is highly complex, and it requires great capacity of foresight to satisfy its goals. While web design is more or less a global-reaching phenomenon, specific geographic targeting may also come into play. Countries such as the UK, the US, Canada, Japan, Australia, and China are considered the most internet-dependent nations.

Most businesses offer online transactions, such as shopping for both product and services. Naturally, these countries have the most pressing need for website innovations that match their general national lifestyles.

Current Trends

According to notable innovators, the current trends in web design, which are expected to continue within the next few years, are as follows:

  • Clean, simple web design and graphics. Despite its complex nature, simplicity and clarity remains an advantage. Users have varying degrees of knowledge about internet usage. It is wiser to assume that nobody wants a complicated and hard to use interface that creates more problems and less convenience.
  • Scrolling web design layouts. Touch screen technology has become increasingly popular, paving the way for efficient and user-friendly scrolling lay outs. Rapid changes to this type of technology leave web designers in constant anticipation, which makes them more pro-active.
  • Smartphone and tablet web browsing. Mobile web design is also an emerging profession with the constant inundation of new mobile phone versions. Almost 80% of mobile users use their device for browsing the internet. Web design should thus be optimized for any given type of mobile phone device.
  • Video, info-graphics and diagrams in web design. Undoubtedly, videos and images have the strongest pulling factor for users. Sometimes, users prefer information presented through videos and info-graphics. For this reason, a good web design should provide opportunities for multi-media, in order to be more enticing to a range of different users.

What is the future of web design? Well, as we have seen, it is a constantly changing landscape, and we can only assume what will happen in only the near future, based on our current needs and devices. In the coming years, look mainly for web design to start catching up to all of our recent technological advances.
